CO TOP STATE IN MEDICAL WC CLAIMS

Per the National Council on Compensation Insurance (NCCI), Colorado is in the top 5 states with the most COVID-19 workers’ medical compensation claims.  In Colorado there are more than 300 COVID-19 claims per 100,000 active claims which is a 50% increase from 2019.  Other states with the most claims include Alaska, Florida, New Jersey and Connecticut.  

A workers’ compensation claim becomes a “medical claim” when a worker receives medical attention at least one time while the claim is active.  NCCI also found that 70% of these medical claims related to COVID-19 are made by women.  This is thought to be due to the fact that more women than men are employed in the healthcare industry namely as registered nurses, home health aides, as well as in psychiatric roles.
