The Coming of Sustainable Safety Culture
Safety, among many other things, is always a top priority for employers and their employees. According to an article written by Steve Hallo, there are only about 20% of hiring organizations that have achieved a sustainable safety culture. The article mentions that about three quarters of hiring organizations believe they have achieved this safety culture, but 20% seems a lot lower than that. The article by Hallo highlights some things that companies can do to achieve this safety culture. One thing he mentions, said my Marie Anderson of ISN Software Corp, is that companies and contract partners should collect feedback from employees on how they view their safety culture at work, and create routine assessments to ensure this safety culture is being achieved. Collecting this feedback gives the non-front-line workers a chance to assess the risk their workers face. Once employers have their feedback, goals can be set to meet the required safety culture. To have a sustainable safety culture, it needs to be felt across the company. Hallo mentions the different sectors of work, and how their safety engagement can differ from that of another, simply because there are very different tasks needing to be done, and different safety risks. Companies should make sure to fully understand the risks of their employees and do everything they can to protect them from injury and harm in the workplace. This can also help reduce claims, and employee retention. To read the full article, check it out here:
