The secret to more hours in the day?
Almost everyone has asked for more hours in the day. There is always something to do and never enough time to do it. In their article, “POV: Yes, there are enough hours in a day – If you manage your time better”, Jenny Fernandez and Luis Velasquez discuss three solid ways to boost your productivity, without needing more hours in the day. According to the article, a Stanford study determined that productivity declines when a person works too much, as one might personally experience. Fernandez and Velasquez present their three ideas on how to fix this issue: Prioritize Planning; Trust, Delegate, and Empower; and Let Go of Control.
Prioritizing seems to be the most logical way to focus your time. The authors state that one should identify their most critical projects, and that should be focused on first. They also talk about needing to know how to say “no”. This brings us to their next point: Trust, Delegate, and Empower. In order to prioritize, since everything is most likely important, it is crucial to trust and build a team around you that you can rely on to get things done. Tasks that can be done by someone on your team, saves you a ton of time for things that only you can do. Which leads to the last point in the article: Let Go of Control. No one likes being micromanaged. Trust your team to do what they need to do. Teach them, and help them succeed, and you will be doing both them and you a favor.
Fernandez and Velasquez present four questions for readers to ask themselves in order to help show what areas need more focus when helping to create a team. Check them out here:
